Industrial Visits and Industry Interaction
Industrial visits play a crucial role in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application by exposing students to real-world engineering processes. As part of the undergraduate program, students of the Department of [Department Name] undertake various industry visits designed to enhance their understanding of core subjects and industry practices.
During the 5th semester, students visit GEMCO (General Electric Manufacturing Plant) to complement their learning in the course “Electrical Machine Design.” This visit helps students connect the lessons taught in class to the practical aspects of transformer design, analysis, and manufacturing processes.
In the 8th semester, as part of the Power Plant Engineering course, students visit the 105 MW HFO-fired power plant at Shikalbaha, Chattogram. This visit provides firsthand exposure to the essential components of a power generation system, including boilers, pumps, turbines, and generators. Following the visit, students are assigned a set of questions related to the plant operations to assess their understanding of the fundamentals of power plant engineering.
Regular industry interactions not only enhance academic learning but also contribute to the development of leadership qualities, management skills, and a broader professional perspective among students. Moreover, these interactions help keep the academic curriculum updated with the latest industrial technologies and practices, benefiting both students and faculty.
Since 2012, our students have also been regularly participating in 3- to 4-week training programs at TICI (Training Institute for Chemical Industries) under a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PUC and TICI. This training further strengthens their practical skills and industry readiness.
In addition to GEMCO and Shikalbaha Power Plant visits, students also have the opportunity to explore and learn from other leading industrial establishments, including:
Bangladesh Steel Re-Rolling Mills (BSRM), Chattogram
Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Limited (CUFL), Chattogram
Karnafuli Shipyard, Chattogram
N Mohammad Plastic
4H Group
KSRM
These visits expose students to diverse industrial sectors, enriching their academic journey and preparing them for professional success.
